Our Method
Peeled logs
Wood getting turned
Real big lures getting a paint job

Each piece is handcrafted individually from natural materials.
At the heart of every lure and bobber is a log harvested here in Southern California.  All timber taken from the forest is dead and downed. With every lure purchase you help reduce the potential for wild fires!
The first step in each lure’s life is a high speed spin on a lathe.
There are wood shavings galore around here!  Our gardens are always full of “lure leftovers”.
After finish sanding, each lure is primed and custom painted.
Our paint schemes are varied to meet every fisherman’s palate.  While some are classic red and white others mirror commonplace modern lure patterns like the perch. Once the final coat has had sufficient time to dry, the lures are antiqued.

A giant treble hook being welded

Antiquing is a special part of what makes Reel Big Lures’ products unique.
The weathered/aged look is what gives each piece the character of a favorite lure that has been in and out of the tackle box for years.
All of our hooks are cut and crafted from long sticks of rolled steel then shaped, welded and painted in house.
When finished they are put to the scrutinizing eye of the boss who often calls for, “a little more rust (paint).”
*All hooks are dulled for your safety.  We can’t afford to lose any customers to slip and fall accidents.
